Research is when you need to find out something, you go and find a source that contains that information that you need. This could include facts,years,background information,etc.

What needs to be researched when making a computer game?


  • If i was to invest in developing a game i would need to research the details behind the game. 
  • I would need to find out the most popular genre of gaming is of the audience  
  • what market i would sell it in. 
  • I would need to research the hardware and software that creates the game.  
  • I would need to find out how much the game will sell for

qualitative research- surveys,opinions
quantitative research-numbers, more factual



The 3 main purposes of research 20/09/19

Audience research-Audience research is any research performed on a specific sample such as the audience to build up information about their behaviour, attitudes and habits.  The sample can vary from a range of age,gender,etc.  The purpose of audience research so the producer can get a better idea of what the audience wants and gains insight of the target audience.

Market research-Market research is when you collect and supply information about a market,service or product to be provided for sale in that market. You will want to see if there is similar products on the market and the competition there will be as when you know this information you understand who your competing against. 

  • what the market looks like
  • who are the competition
  • who are competing products,and from whom/where
  • potential costs, revenue and profit


Production research-Production research is research to show information on the characteristics of the product. It mainly looks at the production of the product which will assist them to see the profit that will be made/loss and how successful it will be.

If audience and market research go well, a new product can be launched
production research will:
  • provide content to allow the company to develop the new product
  • the commercial viability of actually making the product
  • technology and research available
  • suitable recordings and production locations
  • research plan production and post production stages to ensure that it all runs well.
